There were nine left to win and, one run later, number 11 Anya Shrubsole was blown away by Anisa Mohammed to give the West Indies their first ever win over England at a World Cup.
West Indies had previously been reduced from 81-0 to 98-4, before a 123 run between Shemaine Campbelle and Chedean Nation lifted them to 225-6.
With a unique game the West Indies managed to suppress England and resulted in a victory.
With the top four from an eight-team group going through to the semi-finals, England's defense of the trophy they won in 2017 is far from over, but they now have little margin for error.
Their next match is against South Africa in Tauranga on Monday.
West Indies added this scalp to their win over hosts New Zealand and are in a strong position to tilt in the semi-finals.
