MDP Live - The host tennis player who is still 20 years old, Brandon Nakashima appeared so dominant in the first round of the Delray Beach Open 2022 season.
The world number 81 needed just 54 minutes to beat compatriot Denis Kudla 6-1, 6-1 to set foot in the second round of the Delray Beach Open.
The ATP level 250 tournament has fond memories of 20-year-old Nakashima, who reached the quarter-finals at Delray Beach two seasons ago as an 18-year-old. He will look to go that far when he faces seventh seed Adrian Mannarino or Briton Liam Broady in the second round.
Nakashima gave 105th-ranked Kudla little chance to win points. The 20-year-old also faced no break points and converted five of the eight break points he created.
In a match three times longer than that match, Australian John Millman eliminated eighth seed and host Maxime Cressy 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 after 2 hours 54 minutes.
Cressy's serve and volley strategy put the pressure on Millman with an attacking style in the windy conditions throughout the match. But the 32-year-old remained calm despite the pressure.
"He fought relentlessly, serving full of power, both first and second. He's always looking to move forward, whether it's in his service games or game returns. It takes some mental strength to get through your service game. It was a really challenging match," said Millman.
In other action, the host tennis player, Steve Johnson managed to stop the steps of the South African tennis player, Kevin Anderson with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 victory in 2 hours 1 minute. Johnson saved the only break point opportunity he faced against former world number 5 Anderson.
In other action, Germany's Oscar Otte stepped into the second round of the Delray Beach Open with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, while Italian Andreas Seppi beat Otte's compatriot Peter Gojowczyk by 7-5, 6-4.
