Australian Open Results: Paula Badosa Moves To Third Round

MDP Live - Paula Badosa and Victoria Azarenka each managed to win in the second round of the 2022 Australian Open season.

The eighth seed from Spain battled for 1 hour and 11 minutes at Rod Laver Arena to beat Italian Martina Trevisan 6-0, 6-3. With the win, he is now on a seven-game winning streak after last week he claimed the third title of his career in Sydney.

“It was a complicated game against Martina. We have known each other for quite a long time. He is a fighter. I know he will make me fight for every point and he will fight until the end. I'm quite happy about today's win (19/1)," said Badosa.

"I think I'm growing as an individual and a tennis player day by day. I train hard. I trust myself. Feels so different. Last season I was ranked 70th in the world. I am currently ranked 6th in the world. I developed a lot. I really feel happy and proud about how I fought.”

The world number 6 was unable to advance to the third round of the Australian Open from her previous three visits. In fact, he had never been on a winning streak in Australia before he won the title in Sydney last week.

However, the 2021 Indian Wells champion broke that misfortune with a dominant performance against 111th-ranked Trevisan, including when he shot five aces, won 80 percent of points from his first serve, and was never broken the entire game.

Standing between Badosa and a place in the fourth round of the Australian Open is Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk after the 19-year-old knocked out 32nd seed Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-6, 6-3.

On other courts, 24th seed Azarenka, who won the Australian Open twice (2012, 2013) also excelled as she demolished Swiss Jil Teichmann 6-1, 6-2, a win that sent her into the third round for 11th time in his career. However, it was his furthest step in Melbourne since reaching the quarter-finals of the 2016 season.

"I thought it was a very solid match from start to finish," said Azarenka. “I thought my game plan was executed really well and I took my chances. I think I played really well in the crucial moments."

Waiting for Belarusian Azarenka in the third round was 15th seed Elina Svitolina who limped slightly before her French opponent Harmony Tan withdrew due to injury as Svitolina led 6-3, 5-7, 5-1.
